You can open or close Properties pallette by ticking on/off Properies box in Ribbon: Windows | User Interface

Searching an object in Project Browser: R-click on any item in Project browser, click on Search at the bottom of the context menu, and type Living Room in the "Find:" field of the dialog that appears.
